04 Aug 2008 Java Real-Time System, Version 2.1 Available Now [20363]
Available Now - Cool demo given at Java One

The Sun Java Real-Time System (Java RTS) is Sun's commercial implementation of the Real-Time Specification for Java (JSR-001). Implementations of the Java RTS make standard Java technology more deterministic and enable it to meet rigorous timing requirements for mission-critical real-time applications.

After several months of testing, the Sun Java Real-Time System version 2.1 (Java RTS 2.1) is now available. The Java RTS gives users unprecedented control over their Java code execution including thread priorities and whether or not an activity should be interrupted by garbage collection.

04 Aug 2008 JavaFX Script Tutorial Series [20375]
Provides the Basic Tools You Need to Get Started

JavaFX Script is a new scripting language that developers can use to create dynamic graphical content. While the language provides libraries on the desktop to help you use the Swing user interface (UI) toolkit and Java 2D APIs conveniently, it doesn't replace either Swing or Java 2D; the goal is to make those APIs more accessible to rich content developers. In other environments, such as mobile systems, JavaFX Script makes use of user interface technologies other than Swing. This tutorial series on JavaFX Script enables you to write visually rich applications that run across platforms and operating environments.

Java's Hadoop Feeds High Traffic Website Developers' Needs

When large companies, such as Google and Yahoo, need to manage large databases that are used to process 10,000 or more nodes and/or have a need for several hundred gigabytes of email log data, the software they use is Hadoop. Hadoop is a component to the JAVA software, and its current release, 0.17.1, is a computing platform that can manage vast amounts of data.

21 Jul 2008 Using the Scene Graph to Present Visual Objects in JavaFX Script [20189]
Demo Application Illustrates Data Binding, GUI Components

This article by Irina Fedortsova entitled "Using the Scene Graph to Present Visual Objects in JavaFX Script" describes a demo that uses the scene graph features in JavaFX. The demo provides nodes with three different types of contents and enables the user to apply animation and translucency effects. The user can select any combination of nodes to make them visible. The data binding mechanism is extensively used in this demo, providing an automatic synchronization of GUI elements and application data.

14 Jul 2008 Tomcat Today, GlassFish Tomorrow? [20260]
Using Grizzly For Good HTTP Performance

GlassFish vs. Tomcat: Alexis MP mulls over the virtues of both, noting that, with the advent of Grizzly -- the http frontend of the application server -- one no longer requires the use of Apache web server in front since Grizzly is Java-based and integrated into the application server. 23 Jun 2008 Creating JavaFX Script Objects and Using Them in Java Programs [20147]
Exploiting the Inherent Strengths of JavaFX Scripts

Michael Heinrichs has written a Sun Developer Network article on "Using JavaFX Script Objects in Java Programs." This process is a fairly easy one, he maintains, because JavaFX Script was designed to enable the use of Java objects and because the necessary instruments are built right into the language. He demonstrates possible ways to create JavaFX objects and to use them in Java code.
